University of Warwick Publishes Clear Rules on Generative Tools: Use Them Like a Professional, Never as a Ghostwriter

students already use digital tools at work. Pretending those tools do not exist would be dishonest teaching. University of Warwick has therefore published rules that treat generative systems as professional instruments with limits.

Students may use tools to brainstorm structure, check grammar, or explore counter-arguments if the programme allows it and if they declare the use. They may not submit generated analysis, fabricated citations, or code they cannot explain in a viva. Markers are authorised to viva any student, including Mariam Traoré in Abidjan, whose submission does not match their prior voice.

"Integrity is how we protect the value of every honest graduate," said the Chair of Academic Standards. "If we ignore undeclared generation, we cheat the students who did the work."
